Last updated: June 2026 · Tested on Heartopia v1.8

Getting Started

1. What is Heartopia and what kind of game is it?

Heartopia is a cozy multiplayer life simulation game where you build your dream town, cultivate relationships with friendly NPCs, and explore a vibrant world filled with fishing, farming, crafting, cooking, and adventure. It blends the relaxing pace of Stardew Valley with MMO social features, seasonal events, and a robust economy. You can play solo or join friends online to share houses, co-op cook, trade items, and host seasonal festivals together.

2. Is Heartopia free to play?

Heartopia follows a free-to-play model with optional cosmetics and the season pass. The base game, all 100+ recipes, 97 fish species, and 30+ NPCs are available without spending real money. The season pass offers exclusive cosmetic items, a few extra recipes, and bonus daily rewards for active players. None of the pay content affects gameplay balance - you can complete every goal and unlock every recipe without paying.

3. What platforms is Heartopia available on?

Heartopia is currently available on PC (Windows and macOS via Steam and the official launcher), iOS, and Android. Cross-platform play is fully supported - you can start a farm on your phone and continue on PC without losing progress. A console release is planned but not yet confirmed as of June 2026.

4. How do I save my progress and avoid losing data?

Heartopia auto-saves every in-game day at 4 AM. Your account data is stored on the cloud and tied to your login. If you experience lag, save errors, or crashes, the most common fix is to fully close the game client, clear the local cache folder, and relaunch. Our Fix Lag & Save Errors article walks through the exact steps for both PC and mobile clients.

Money & Economy

5. What is the fastest way to make gold in Heartopia?

The fastest gold-making strategy depends on your DG level. Beginners (DG 1-5) should focus on selling common fish raw for 500-1000 gold per hour - no crafting needed. Mid-level players (DG 6-15) should cook basic recipes like Apple Jam, Blueberry Jam, and Strawberry Jam which all give 80-90% profit margins and use cheap ingredients. Advanced players (DG 16+) can earn 6000-10000+ gold per hour by cooking endgame dishes like Sushi Platter, Grilled Lobster, and Truffle Pasta combined with selling legendary fish raw. See our Fishing Money Route and Recipe Calculator for the exact path.

6. What are the best recipes for profit in Heartopia?

Top profit-margin recipes include Grilled Moon Eel (+760 gold, 85.39% margin), Grilled Lobster (+55, 84.62%), Truffle Pasta (+70, 87.50%), and Sushi Platter (+140, 87.50%). High-margin recipes are best because they double or triple your ingredient cost. For daily crafting, focus on the jam family (Apple, Blueberry, Strawberry) which all have over 80% profit margins and use cheap, easy-to-grow ingredients. See our Profit Recipes Ranking for the full list of all 100 recipes ranked.

7. Should I sell raw materials or cook them into dishes?

It depends on the ingredient. Crops like Wheat, Apple, and Blueberry almost always profit more when cooked (Apple Jam profit rate is 81.82% vs raw Apple at 0 margin). Expensive items like Lobster, Tuna, and Truffle have very high cooked margins too. Cheap items like Wheat, Egg, and Milk are usually better cooked into bread, omelettes, or sold during ingredient price spikes. Use the Recipe Calculator to compare raw vs cooked profit for any ingredient combination.

8. How do I get 100,000 gold for free in Heartopia?

There are several tested ways to earn your first 100k gold without spending real money. Combining 7-day login rewards, the starter season pass, daily quest chains, and the first 5 legendary fish catches gets most players to 50k within the first week. Adding the 4-cell greenhouse passive income and 2-3 hours of rare fish farming per day reliably gets you to 100k by day 10. See our step-by-step Free 100K Gold Guide for the exact daily routine.

9. What is the best money route by DG level?

DG 1-5: Catch common fish and sell raw (500-1000 gold/hr). DG 6-10: Cook Apple Jam and Blueberry Jam (1000-3000 gold/hr). DG 11-15: Cook advanced dishes like grilled dishes, soups, and Asian cuisine (3000-6000 gold/hr). DG 16+: Combine endgame cooking (Sushi Platter, Grilled Lobster, Legendary fish cooking) with rare fish raw selling (6000-10000+ gold/hr). The full DG-based strategy table is on the Recipe Calculator page.

Fishing Questions

10. How do I catch rare fish in Heartopia?

Rare fish require three conditions to align: correct season, correct weather, and correct time of day. Many legendary fish only spawn during rainy weather at specific times like early morning or late night. Check our Fish Database and filter by rarity to see spawn conditions for each species. Upgrade your fishing rod for higher catch success rates, use the best bait available, and fish in the correct region. Legendary fish like Moon Eel can sell for 890 gold each - well worth the effort.

11. What is the most valuable fish in Heartopia?

The most valuable fish is the legendary Ocean King Tuna at 2400 gold, followed by the Rainbow Koi at 1850 gold and the Moon Eel at 890 gold. All three are classified as Legendary rarity and require specific weather, season, and time conditions to spawn. They also require fishing level 12+ to catch. Our Rare Fish Tricks article lists the exact spawn windows and best bait for the top 10 most valuable fish.

12. Does weather really affect fish spawns?

Yes, weather is the single most important factor for rare fish. Rainy weather increases the spawn rate of legendary and epic fish by 300% in most regions. Sunny weather favors common and uncommon fish. Stormy weather (rare event) guarantees at least one rare catch. Plan your fishing sessions around the in-game weather forecast shown in the morning news. The forecast is accurate 90% of the time.

13. What fishing rod should I buy first?

The Bamboo Rod is the starting free rod and works fine for common fish. The Iron Rod (1500 gold) is the best first upgrade - it lets you catch Uncommon and Rare fish reliably. The Steel Rod (5000 gold) is required for Epic fish. The Golden Rod (25000 gold) is the best in slot and required for Legendary fish. Don't skip the Iron Rod - many new players try Legendary fish with the wrong rod and waste a whole in-game day.

NPC & Relationship Questions

14. How do I raise NPC affinity quickly?

Each NPC has 2-3 favorite gifts that give big affinity boosts. Use our Characters Database to find every NPC's loved gifts. The fastest strategy is to gift daily, talk to them every day, and complete their personal quests. You can reach 100 affinity with any NPC in 3 in-game days using a time-budgeted gift rotation. Hosting the NPC at your home also boosts affinity when you have furniture matching their theme. See our 3-Day Max Affinity Strategy for the detailed rotation.

15. What gifts do NPCs love the most?

Universal loved gifts include the Legendary Cake, Golden Apple, and Birthday Cake which give +50 affinity with every NPC. NPC-specific loved gifts give +40 affinity. Loved gifts give 4x more affinity than liked gifts, which give 2x more than neutral gifts. Check our All NPC Gifts article for the complete list of every NPC's loved, liked, and hated gifts.

16. Can I marry NPCs in Heartopia?

Yes, you can marry any NPC once you reach 200 affinity (max) and complete their marriage storyline. Each NPC has 3-4 unique marriage questlines that unlock after maxing affinity. Marriage unlocks shared housing, joint activities, and exclusive cosmetic rewards. Same-sex marriage is fully supported - any NPC can marry any player character regardless of gender.

17. What are the rewards for maxing affinity with everyone?

Maxing affinity with all 30+ NPCs unlocks the Master Friend achievement, gives you a permanent 10% sell price boost, and unlocks the exclusive Unity Crown furniture. The Master Friend achievement also grants 5000 bonus gold. The 10% sell boost stacks with the Friendship Ring accessory for a total of 18% sell price increase. See Best Friend Rewards for the full breakdown.

Farming & Greenhouse Questions

18. What is the best crop layout for the greenhouse?

A 4-cell greenhouse can yield up to 50,000 gold passive income per day if laid out correctly. The best layout plants the highest profit-per-cell crops in the four corner cells. Top crops include ancient fruit, starfruit, and rare seasonal crops. Re-plant daily and use growth-boosting fertilizer. The full tested cell-by-cell setup with watering order is in our Greenhouse Layout article.

19. What are the most profitable crops in Heartopia?

Top crops by profit-per-cell-per-day are: Ancient Fruit (135 G), Starfruit (110 G), Pumpkin (95 G), Blueberry (90 G), and Strawberry (85 G). Ancient Fruit is the long-term king because once planted, it regrows forever. For seasonal fast profit, Strawberry in Spring, Blueberry in Summer, and Pumpkin in Autumn are the best choices. The full ranking of all 32 crops with grow time, seed cost, and re-plant data is in our 32 Crops Profit Ranking.

20. How do fertilizers work?

There are 4 fertilizer tiers: Basic (1.2x growth speed), Quality (1.5x), Premium (2.0x), and Deluxe (3.0x). Deluxe fertilizer is the most efficient for high-value crops. Fertilizer is consumed on use and can be crafted at the workbench or bought from the General Store. Quality fertilizer is the best value for most players. Deluxe fertilizer is best for ancient fruit and starfruit.

Crafting, Cooking & Items

21. How do I unlock all crafting recipes?

Recipes unlock as your Craft Level increases. Each craft level unlocks new dishes with higher sell prices and better profit margins. You can check your current Craft Level in the player menu. Cooking daily and crafting all profitable dishes will level you up quickly. Endgame recipes like Sushi Platter and Truffle Pasta require Craft Level 12-14. See the full All Recipes page for every dish and its unlock requirement.

22. What are cooking buffs and how do they work?

Cooking buffs are temporary stat boosts gained from eating cooked dishes. Buffs include +Speed, +Fishing Luck, +Affinity Boost, +Energy, and +Stamina. Buffs last 10-30 in-game minutes depending on the dish. High-tier buff recipes like the Chef's Special give all five buffs at once for 30 minutes. The full list of buff durations and effects is in our Cooking Buffs article.

23. What is the bait cost vs profit for fishing?

Common Bait (10 gold) increases common fish catch rate. Quality Bait (50 gold) increases rare fish catch rate. Premium Bait (200 gold) increases epic fish catch rate. Premium Bait is only worth using if you're targeting epic+ fish in their known spawn window. For most players, Quality Bait on the Iron Rod is the best balance. Full cost-vs-profit analysis is in Bait Cost & Profit.

Home & Furniture

24. How do I increase my home comfort score?

Home comfort is determined by furniture quality, theme matching, and rarity. Each furniture piece adds a comfort score based on its tier. Set themes for 2x comfort bonus, and match furniture to the NPC you want to invite. We tested 12 home themes - Cozy Cottage and Luxury Villa are top choices. See Furniture Comfort for detailed scoring data and 12 Home Themes Tested for theme comparison.

25. What is the best home layout for beginners?

The best beginner home layout is a 6x6 grid with: 1 kitchen, 1 bedroom, 1 living room with couch and TV, 1 garden view window, and 1 spare room. This layout gives comfort score 850/1000 without rare furniture. Upgrade to 8x8 once you have 50k gold. The full layout diagram is in our Beginner Home Layout article.

26. How do I get rare furniture?

Rare furniture comes from: (1) Cooking buff reward chests, (2) Fishing legendary fish reward crates, (3) Seasonal event rewards, (4) NPC marriage gifts, and (5) Crafting with rare materials. The full Furniture Catalog lists every furniture piece with its source and rarity.

Pets & Companions

27. What are the rarest pets and how do I get them?

Rarest pets include the legendary Phoenix, Dragon, and Unicorn. They spawn in specific regions during certain weather conditions. Legendary pets have a 1% spawn rate and require patience. Use our Pet Database to plan which pet to hunt. We recommend the following order: rare dog breeds, then cat breeds, then legendary creatures. Our Rare Pet Spawn article lists exact spawn locations and conditions.

28. What is the best pet for each playstyle?

For money making: Golden Retriever (10% sell boost). For fishing: Fishing Cat (15% rare fish chance). For farming: Harvest Hamster (20% crop yield). For exploration: Swift Fox (30% movement speed). For combat: Battle Bear (5 damage). The full pet tier list is in Pet Tier List and Pet Comparison.

Technical & Multiplayer

29. How do I play multiplayer with friends?

To play multiplayer, your friend needs to add you via your in-game ID. Once added, you can visit each other's towns, co-op cook, trade items, and host festivals together. You can have up to 8 friends in your town at once. Cross-play between PC, iOS, and Android is fully supported. Note that progress is per-account - items you earn in a friend's town go to your account, not theirs.

30. How do I report a bug or contact support?

Use the in-game Help menu > Report Bug button to send a report with auto-attached logs. For general support, visit our Contact page. Known bugs and workarounds are listed on our Bugs page which is updated weekly. The Fix Lag & Save Errors article has the most common client-side fixes.

Codes & Events

31. What are the active codes in Heartopia?

Active codes give free gold, gems, and exclusive items. We update our Active Codes list weekly. To redeem codes, go to Settings > Codes and enter the code exactly as shown. Most codes are case-sensitive and have expiration dates. The list on our homepage is always current. Our Free Season Pass article also shows how to get the season pass for free.

32. What seasonal events are running right now?

The current major event is the 8-week Oceanbound summer event with exclusive ship blueprints and 12 new fish species. The MLP Crossover 4-week event is also live with friendship magic and mount skins. After these, the Autumn Harvest Festival is scheduled. See our News & Updates page for the full event calendar and Oceanbound Guide / MLP Crossover Guide for detailed event walkthroughs.
